Learn how to spot a storm

The National Weather Service, in cooperation with Chesterfield County Emergency Management, will provide SKYWARN training to more than 80 people this evening at the Chesterfield County Public Meeting Room, 10001 Iron Bridge Road (in the Chesterfield County government complex). The class will be held 6-9 p.m.

Weather experts with the National Weather Service’s Weather Forecast Office in Wakefield will teach the participants how to be storm spotters who provide the National Weather service “vital ground truth data” about weather events.

Clear skies give Central Virginians clear view of total lunar eclipse

RICHMOND (WWBT) - If you happened to be outside last night between the hours of one and five Tuesday morning, there's a good chance your eyes were cast skyward to see the full moon lunar eclipse.  

The eclipse was the last of four in 2010, but is the first total lunar eclipse in two years.  The eclipse coincides with the Winter Solstice, which marks the beginning of winter in the northern hemisphere.  NASA says the next total lunar eclipse will occur April 15, 2014.

 

Peak Season for Fall Foliage in the TriCities

TRICITIES (WWBT) - If you haven’t been able to take a drive out to western parts of the state to see the vibrant colors of Fall Foliage, you're in luck!  The Virginia Department of Forestry says from now until November 15 is the peak color period for the coastal plains region.
