NBC 12's Sunni Blevins to Announce Winner of 2010 Best in Show

CHESTERFIELD--Sunni Blevins will be practicing her reporter's objectivity as she announces the winner of Richmond Animal League's 2010 Best in Show on Friday, November 12, at the Science Museum of Virginia.

The candidates, seven passionate animal lovers from around Richmond, have been fundraising for 10 weeks to support the mission of RAL--providing hope, help and homes to animals in need.   Determining the winner seems an easy task--every dollar the candidates raise counts as one vote.  It's simple, really.  The person raising the most money wins.

Massive Adopt-a-Thon Offers Homeless Cats and Dogs a Second Chance

(Chesterfield, VA)- What started almost a year ago as a collaborative effort to reduce euthanasia rates in our government shelters has evolved into monthly, massive adopt-a-thons that have resulted in hundreds of happy endings, or beginnings, for homeless animals in the Richmond area.

On Saturday, October 9th, Metro Richmond Pet Savers (MRPS) will hold its October adopt-a-thon in the parking lot at the PetSMART store at 1276 Carmia Way from 11-3. There will be approximately 200 adoptable dogs and cats that need loving, permanent homes.

It's The Great Pumpkin, RAL!

Chesterfield--In the classic "It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown" Linus expresses his hope in the Great Pumpkin by writing, "A lot of people say you're a fake, but I believe in you."  Just as Linus waits patiently for the Great Pumpkin to appear, the kittens and cats at RAL sit with hope, and complete faith, that someone will come to the shelter and take them home.

In honor of the Great Pumpkin, and our homeless cats, RAL is offering a reduced adoption fee for all orange or orange and white felines during the month of October.

After Almost a Year, Bozley Goes Home

CHESTERFIELD (WWBT) - A dog who spent the better part of a year living in a crate at two separate animal shelters has finally found a home.  Bozley, a four-year old hound mix, left Richmond Animal League (RAL) yesterday with a couple who adopted him and will share their 5 acres of land with their new pet.  While there were tears, and he will be missed dearly by the volunteers and staff at RAL, no one could dispute that this was a very happy day for Bozley.  Bozley's future wasn't always so bright.
