Police step up traffic enforcement for holiday weekend

Police will conduct an increased number of holiday DUI patrols, checkpoints and aggressive driver enforcement operations throughout the county this Fourth of July weekend.

Chesterfield Police are participating in the Checkpoint Strikeforce campaign in conjunction with their Drive to Arrive traffic safety program. Drive to Arrive does it all by targeting key traffic safety elements, such as drunken driving, aggressive driving, speeding and red light and seatbelt violators.

It is estimated that more than 400 people will die in vehicle crashes in the United States this Fourth of July weekend, and half of these deaths will be alcohol related. In an effort to make the deadliest holiday weekend on the roads the safest, heightened enforcement begins Friday and continues into early Tuesday morning.
